Aims and objectives
Forms and levels of cooperation
Collaboration between the preschool/school, pupils and guardians should take place continuously at four different levels and forms as described below:
Child and pupil level (child/pupil and educators)
In the preschool and school, the department has an assembly every day. This gives the pre-school children the opportunity to discuss the activities with the teachers. The older preschool children can also elect a representative to the pupil council. Pupil councils are held at school. The pupil council consists of two representatives from each class. They are elected, by democratic vote, at the beginning of each school year. Each Student Council is attended by at least one adult and always follows a clear agenda.
Individual level (teachers and educators)
This collaboration takes place in the daily meetings that take place at the preschool/school in connection with drop-off and pick-up. Here, there should be opportunities for both dialog and the transfer of information. The individual child’s/pupil’s development talks are also part of this dialog/opportunity to influence.
Departmental level (work team)
In this regard, cooperation should take place through regular meetings with parents. These should be organized so that parents/guardians are given the opportunity to express their views and are given the opportunity to influence the activities and participate in the evaluation of the preschool/school’s activities. It can also take the form of a meeting place for dialogue and information, for example as an open house, drop-in or vernissage at the preschool/school.
Unit level (principal)
The pre-school/school organizes forums for consultation where parent representatives from all departments of the pre-school and classes of the school are given the opportunity to participate. Pupil representatives from the school are also given the opportunity to participate. Consultation forums are held 1-2 times per term and the head teacher is responsible for convening these meetings. Parent representatives are elected by appointing a class representative from among the parents in each department/class. One of these representatives is appointed as the contact person with the school. Pupil representatives are appointed by the Pupil Council.
Handling of personal data at Lingua Montessori schools
On May 28, 2018, the new EU directive GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) came into force. In short, the GDPR means that you will have better control over what personal data companies and organizations hold about you and, in this case, your children, and how it can be used. Below we explain how we handle personal data at Lingua Montessori Schools.
If you have any questions or concerns about our processing of personal data, you can contact our Data Protection Officer.
E-mail: dataskydd@montessorisverige.se
Purpose
You must know what you are going to use the data for and you may not change the purpose afterwards. The purpose of holding personal data about you and the children you have at Lingua Montessori Schools is to be able to fulfill our mission as a preschool, primary school and after-school care center. You can read more about each task and its use under the register list below.
Relevance
Depending on your purpose, you may only collect relevant data – nothing extra that might be useful to have in the future. In order to fulfill the purpose, it is relevant for Lingua Montessori Schools to collect and use the following data (list of records). Follow the link for each list:
Erasure
If you no longer need the data, it must be deleted in accordance with the Archives Act. The vast majority of personal data about children and guardians is deleted in the same school year as the child leaves the organization. In some cases, other legislation (e.g. regarding finances) requires us to save the data for longer, and then of course this applies according to a separate document management plan.
Access to
Only those who need the data for their work should have access to it. The personal data that we hold at Lingua Montessori Schools about parents and children is only accessible to those employees who, for the performance of their duties, must have access to personal data. Each employee has access only to the data required by the function and nothing else.
Protection
Make sure that the data is not leaked or stolen. You may need to encrypt sensitive data. At Lingua Montessori Schools, personal data is protected by using google via wizkids for storage and email (or other dedicated program with secure login). Physical data of a sensitive nature is kept locked up.
Knowledge
Complaints (for guardians)
According to the Education Act, Chapter 4, Section 8, the principal must have written procedures for receiving and investigating complaints about education. We see complaints as an opportunity to improve our operations.
Who do I complain to?
- If there is anything that does not meet your expectations or that you are dissatisfied with in your child’s education, raise it in the first instance with your child’s educator/teacher at the pre-school/school/after-school.
- If you are unable to resolve the problem and your dissatisfaction persists, you should contact the head teacher of the pre-school or school, so that the organization itself can react and investigate.
- If you are still dissatisfied, please make a written complaint using the appropriate complaint form via the link on the left.
- If you believe that the School is not fulfilling its mission according to laws and regulations and you are not satisfied with the handling of your complaint, you can file a complaint with the Schools Inspectorate: www.skolinspektionen.se. If the case concerns preschool activities, you should instead contact the municipality where the preschool is located.
Of course, you can also call, email or book a meeting to make your complaint, in which case we will ask you whether we should consider it a complaint. If this is the case, an investigation will be launched.
Whistleblowing (for employees and other stakeholders) For those who have something important to tell
It is important that our employees and our business feel good. Problems and serious issues therefore need to be brought to light so that we as an organization have the opportunity to act.
Many situations can be resolved by talking to each other directly when they arise. Sometimes things can happen that require a completely different approach. That’s why we offer a whistleblowing channel for everyone working at our preschool and school. This channel is for anyone who has a professional relationship with us, such as a consultant or contracted staff.
We use an externally managed whistleblowing function, Trumpet. The link to the left will take you to the whistleblowing page of our principal, via the Montessori Sweden website.
Information on compulsory schooling and leave of absence
Background information
The school’s obligation is to fulfill the pupils’ right to education according to the applicable guidelines and policy documents. In order to fulfill our educational mission, pupils must be in school according to compulsory education.
Zero position
In connection with the new School Act 2010, the view of pupils’ opportunities for leave from school was tightened. This came about because the legislator has seen a tendency over time for schools to have to consider the wishes of guardians for recreational trips/vacation during the school year on an increasing number of occasions. For the individual pupil, this means a break in their studies, important lessons are missed and continuity is lost. To some extent, the whole group is also affected. The school year covers 178 of the 365 days of the year. The remaining days are deemed to meet students’ needs for recreation and rest.
Guidelines under current school law
We therefore only grant leave requests that are within the framework of the applicable School Law. Pupils may be exempted from teaching if there are special reasons. Individual matters may also be grounds for granting leave. Exceptional reasons are when there is a need beyond the ordinary.
Ordinary holiday travel does not fall within the scope of the reasons basis for exemption from compulsory education.
Any absence that is not reported by the parents/guardians or if the pupil is absent for any other reason will be documented as an invalid absence. In this context, please also bear in mind the start time of the school day and that any arrival after that time will be considered as late arrival.
We understand that this means sometimes tricky conditions for you as guardians. However, our belief is that we share a common view that school is important.
